Rahul Dravid inspired by Dipa Karmakar’s commitment and belief
Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid was in all praise for the India gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who became the first ever Indian gymnast to book a spot in the final of a gymnastics event in the Olympics. Dravid took to Facebook to appreciate Dipa’s historic performance from the gymnastics event at the Rio Olympics.
“Being the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics was a fabulous achievement. Now, you make it to the finals of the vault! Dipa Karmakar, you have been breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes from the time you first stepped into a gym. I have been inspired by your commitment and belief and that of your parents, Coach Nandi and the rest of your support system. We are truly honoured to have you as part of the Athlete Mentorship Programme at GoSports Foundation. #YouMadeItHappen #SportingJourneys #RDAthleteMentorships #Rio2016,” Dravid wrote on his Facebook page.
On Sunday morning, she became the first Indian to qualify for the Individual vault finals in gymnastics, which is a huge achievement. No Indian woman before her had qualified for a gymnastics event at the Olympics. But now, Dipa has a chance to win a medal at Rio.
