Railways deny NOC to Sudip Chatterjee and Anustup Majumdar

Bengal are dealt with a major blow ahead of the upcoming domestic season as the Railways have denied providing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to two of its players. Sudip Chatterjee and Anustup Majumdar featured for Bengal last season but they have been told to report for a pre-season camp by the Railways which is starting on August 29 at the Karnail Singh Stadium in the capital.

The left-handed Chatterjee is employed with the Metro Rail and his employer wants its best players to play for the Railways. Both the players had procured the NOC to play for Bengal last year but the Railway authorities have cleared that no leeway will be given this time around.

“Railways have the first right on these sportspersons. Sudip is a valuable player for the Railways. This year, he and Anushtup will have to report to the camp and play for the Railways,” Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) secretary Rekha Yadav was quoted as saying by Sportstar Live.

Consequences of not reporting

Yadav also warned the players about the consequences they will face, in case the players fail to report to the pre-season camp. They will not be allowed to play for any other state and believed that they have all the right to expect from them to play for the Railways after giving the job security.

It’s simple. If they don’t report for the camp, they will not get NOC to play for any other state. In any case, it was the BCCI technical committee chaired by Sourav Ganguly which issued a diktat that only employees can play. We are giving them job security and in return, we can expect them to play for Railways,” she further added.

Moreover, when asked if the CAB President Ganguly requests her to release the players, she said that the former Indian captain understands the situation and hoped that he won’t make any such requests. “I have huge respect for Mr Ganguly. I am very sure he understands that I am bound by rules so I don’t think he would make any such request. As RSPB secretary, it is my duty to ensure that Railways field the best team and that’s what has been my endeavour,” Yadav concluded.
