Ranji Trophy 2018-19: After smog controversy, Delhi faces a 'toilet' issue
The shambolic toilets in the stadiums won't do any good to Delhi's reputation by any means.
The ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy got underway on Thursday, November 1. As many as 18 matches were scheduled for the day, one of the encounters being staged at Karnail Singh Stadium between Railways and Mumbai. While the cricket, which has taken place thus far has been phenomenal, the developments outside the cricket pitch haven’t been great.
There’s only one toilet and the condition of the same isn’t pleasant by any stretch of the imagination. By the looks of the washroom, it seems as if it hasn’t been cleaned for ages. While the western-style toilet is completely broken, the Indian-style toilet is jammed to such an extent that there’s no outlet for human excrement to be flushed out as per reports in Mumbai Mirror.
Another disgraceful occurring
The men would be fortunate to have a urinal, but for the women, there isn’t much to do and have to resort to using some other places nearby. Surprisingly, it has also been learned that the toilets were cleaned ahead of the match. The Stadium belongs to the Indian Railways and the Indian Government has undertaken a cleanliness drive by encouraging the building of toilets.
Delhi has been suffering from air pollution for quite a while now. A considerable amount of smog in the air has been a major concern for the Capital of India. Most of the times, people in the city can be seen wearing masks in order to protect themselves from the polluted air. The pollution and the shambolic toilets in the stadiums won’t do any good to Delhi’s reputation by any means.
As far as the match is concerned, Mumbai won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first. Dhawal Kulkarni’s team racked up a significant 411 courtesy of Shivam Dubey’s 114 and a couple of handy knocks from Siddhesh Lad and Suryakumar Yadav. Railways have tended to strain thereafter and apart from Arindam Ghosh, no other batsman have been able to put up a fight.
