IPL: Ranking 10 worst releases in the league history
The history of IPL has seen many shocking player releases.
4. KL Rahul (RCB)
KL Rahul had initially started his IPL career with his home team (RCB) in 2013 at a base price of INR 10 Lakh. However, after making his India debut, the opener was then fetched by the SRH franchise for INR 1 Crore in 2014. However, with resulting as a decent proposition, the SRH team had discarded KL Rahul in 2016 which again then made his re-entry at the RCB.
Surprisingly, while the likes of skipper Virat Kohli and ABD were batting on a different planet in the 2016 season, even KL Rahul had joined the party and had scored some blazing 397 runs at a commendable average of around 44. In fact, his strike rate of 146.49 had turned out to be a revelation for many IPL teams that also then eventually paved his way into team India’s T20I setup.
However, by getting injured for the next entire season, the horrific 2017 season had influenced the RCB franchise to even discard KL Rahul before the 2018 mega auction. Hence, when the franchise had also not used its RTM card to bag Rahul at the auction table, the PBKS management had not only then signed Rahul as an explosive opener but also as their future captaincy prospect. Overall, ever since KL Rahul has joined the Punjab franchise, the batter has been one of the routine contenders of the orange cap in the last few seasons of the IPL.
