Cricket is one of the most followed sports in India and the fans don’t get bored watching it throughout the year. For a normal human being, it is just a sport. But, for others, it is an emotion, a reason for living. It is equivalent to religion in the country that produced some gems in international cricket and people worship cricketers like Gods. Even, they have termed Sachin Tendulkar as the ‘God of Cricket’. It is known that India has many religions and people speak in different languages. However, they all can understand the language of cricket. Long ago, Bollywood directors had sensed these emotions. And, they found it as one of the ways to connect with their audience. So, they rolled out some cricket-based movies that reaped lots of success at the box office. Some of them got applause and some of them managed to make a special place in the hearts of the fans. Now, when the Coronavirus outbreak has left everyone’s life miserable and the government announced a lockdown in the country, fans will surely be getting bored. In the year 2017, a biopic was made on the incredible cricketing journey and life insights of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. More fondly, known as the 'God of Cricket', this movie explores and tells the story of a small boy with big dreams who went on to become the most followed global icon and the most cherished Indian athlete after humble beginnings in the grounds of Mumbai. Interestingly enough, it was Sachin's elder sister Savita, who motivated the legend to take up the game and gifted him his first cricket bat. Thereafter, his elder brother Ajit took the responsibility of honing his skills and guided him to take up cricket on a professional front. This incredible journey then transitioned to his mentor aka childhood coach Sir Ramakanth Achrekar who offered him vada paos as a reward, whenever Sachin did well in his gruelling practice sessions. Besides, who can forget his the-then-world record partnership with former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli in school cricket which led him to make his debut in the Ranji Trophy when he was just 14? If that was not enough, the legendary batter went on to make his international cricket debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the tender age of 16. However, Sachin Tendulkar did not have the best of starts after the fiery pacer Waqar Akram broke his nose and the notorious Javed Miandad told him to visit the hospital. But a determined youngster stood his ground and played a match-saving knock of 57 runs for India. Besides, this biopic also explores his life away from cricket in the form of his wife, Anjali Tendulkar's huge role in supporting Sachin Tendulkar throughout the cricketing journey at the apex level. All in all, the Indian legend ended up with a mind-boggling 34'357 runs with 100 international centuries for India. It was directed by the famous Bollywood director Neeraj Pandey. It was a commercialised biopic on the journey of India’s World Cup-winning skipper. This movie showed the life cycle of Dhoni from being a football goalkeeper to a school wicketkeeper by coincidence. Later on, he became a ticket collector before getting selected for Team India. He had earned a reputation as one of the most talented players in the domestic circuit. Everyone was a fan of his sublime hitting. In school time he used to bat in the lower order as his coach used to focus on his keeping skills. But in less number of chances also Dhoni proved his worth with the bat. There were many things that hogged the spotlight in that movie but the dialogue ‘Mahi Maar Raha Hain’ became quite popular. Despite all the obstacles that MS Dhoni faced throughout his life from his personal to cricket life, everything was well directed by the Neeraj Pandey. It was the best-ever piece directed by a Bollywood director with limited resources. The story potentially revolves around the poor conditions of Indians during British rule. At that time cricket was the main sport of Simons whereas India didn’t know a single bit about it. But, a young individual took up the challenge to beat the Britishers in their own game. Indians worked hard and got some training about the rules from Elizabeth Russell, who was supporting Indians. On the other hand, the stakes were quite high as the hosts would have to pay double taxes if they lost but that never happened. The Indians came out all guns blazing in the crucial game. Hence, this movie explores the real question which remained at that point, who would be the leader of the pack and how would he make the team believe to do the unthinkable? Back in March 1983, an Indian team was chosen to represent the nation in the third edition of the ODI World Cup in England. A new captain in the making in the form of Kapil Dev took the mantle from another legend Sunil Gavaskar which made many Indian cricket officials uncomfortable. Moreover, every team including its own cricket board game this young spirited team any chance whatsoever to stay alive in the global event and trouble even the minnows. However, the new skipper played by actor Ranveer Singh had an unwavering self-belief which he successfully inflicted on the whole team and changed the way Indian players approached the game initially. The story revolves around how Anina loses her right hand and gets motivation from a failed and frustrated cricketer of yesteryears. This character of a cruel former cricketer played by actor Abhishek Bachchan, who devises innovative ideas to transform Anina aka Saiyami Kher from once upon a time batting genius to a painful journey of becoming a lethal bowler with a rather bowling action called 'Ghoomer' to rattle the opponents in a search for cricketing glory at the apex level.
