Ahead of the 2019 IPL edition, the Sunrisers Hyderabad side decided to trade Shikhar Dhawan. In return, the ‘Orange Army’ got hold of three players from the Delhi franchise in Shahbaz Nadeem, Abhishek Sharma, and Vijay Shankar. Dhawan had been in good form in the 2018 season. The left-hander scored 497 runs at an average of 38.23, including 4 fifties.

Yet, SRH decided against retaining him. But then, Dhawan has proven to be a lethal batsman at the top of the order for Delhi. In the 2019 edition, Dhawan scored 521 runs for the franchise at an average of 34.73. In the 2020 edition, Dhawan experienced his best ever IPL season, plundering 618 runs for Delhi and even created history by scoring back-to-back IPL hundreds.

Dhawan is a veteran in IPL cricket and has played a colossal 176 matches. The 35-year-old is the fifth-highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5197 runs to his name. He will continue to render his services for the Delhi Capitals in the 2021 edition.
