Rare video of MS Dhoni practicing wicketkeeping in the CSK nets
The Jharkhand-born doesn’t generally practice keeping and depends more on his fast glovework.
MS Dhoni hasn’t been in action much since the 2019 edition of the World Cup. Martin Guptill ran him out in the semi-final of the mega event at the Old Trafford in Manchester and the Indian veteran hasn’t played any competitive cricket from then. The 38-year-old is now set to ply his trade for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Back in 2008, Dhoni joined the CSK franchise and his fandom has grown leaps and bounds with the passage of time. In 2016 and 2017, Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiant when the CSK was going through a two-year suspension period. But in 2018, he returned to the Super Kings and gave them their third title, beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at the Wankhede Stadium.
Even in 2019, he took his team to the final, but Mumbai Indians beat them by a solitary run to end their hopes. The fans are now eagerly waiting for him to don the CSK colours in the upcoming IPL. The tournament was earlier scheduled to get underway on March 29, but that has now been postponed to April 15. The same is due to the coronavirus pandemic in the last few days.
A number of sporting tournaments have been brought to a halt. Hence, Dhoni’s fans would need to wait for a bit more they can see their hero wield magic. The coronavirus effect has also meant that CSK called off their practice session. All the players have returned to their homes and even Dhoni has temporarily bid adieu to the Chepauk. It now remains to be seen whether the IPL takes place or not.
MS Dhoni keeping in the nets
With the bat, Dhoni recently scored 123 off 91 balls in a practice game. In the meantime, a video of Dhoni, practising keeping in the CSK nets, have been doing the rounds on the social media platforms. The Jharkhand-born doesn’t generally practice keeping and depends more on his fast glovework.
“Keepers don’t really need a lot of catching. I have seen over-exaggeration from some keepers. They start going on the floor, ‘very frog style’ of keeping and ‘jaw is parallel to the floor’. What is a keeper supposed to do? You can drop 100 balls, but whenever there is a catch you take it and whenever there is a stumping opportunity, you take it,” he had said.
