Ravichandran Ashwin is a great leader: KXIP pacer Andrew Tye
The current season hasn't turned out as he would've expected for Tye but KXIP have done well.
Kings XI Punjab pacer Andrew Tye was one of Punjab’s most impressive performers last season. In fact, he was one of the overall standout performers in the last edition of the IPL. In a country where the overseas pacers really do not make much of an impression in the IPL, Tye proved his mettle. The Australian picked up a stunning 5 for 17 on his IPL debut, was the leading wicket-taker in the last season.
Despite Kings XI Punjab failing to make it to the playoffs, Tye won the Purple Cap, ending the season with 24 wickets from just 14 games. However, the ongoing season is not panning out in the same manner. The right-arm pacer has struggled to replicate his last year’s form this season. In 4 matches, the Australian has managed only 2 wickets at an average of 77.50 and an economy-rate of almost ten. No surprises then that he is not a regular feature in the playing eleven like last season.
In a recent interview, Tye admitted that his current season ‘is not that awesome’ like the last season. He, however, insisted that he is giving his best while saying that the team’s performance this season is making him happy.
“It is not that awesome in comparison to the last season. But I am giving my best. At the end of the day, it is not about personal success. I am really happy the team is doing good. At times, it is frustrating sitting on the bench but it is the nature of the game. It is a team game. I am ready whenever the team needs me,” Tye told The Times of India.
Praise for Ashwin
Despite not getting enough game time this season, the pacer some words of praise for his skipper Ravichandran Ashwin. Hailing Ashwin as a great leader, Tye said the spinner leaves no stone unturned while preparing for a game.
“He is a great leader. He is well prepared on the field. He leaves no stone unturned when it comes to taking out stats, watching videos to help the bowlers and batsmen. He comes up with different ideas. He is a great leader and the boys love him,” said Tye.
Kings XI Punjab, meanwhile, are once again struggling to build upon the fine start to the season. They have lost four of their last five games and are in danger of losing out on the playoff spot again.
