Dilip Doshi, the former left-arm spinner, has lavished praises on Ravindra Jadeja, saying that the southpaw is the best tweaker Team India have in their setup. In 2017, the Saurashtra cricketer went out of contention, but made a comeback in the 2018 Asia Cup in the UAE. Currently, the seasoned campaigner is a part of the national team in all three formats.

Doshi, however, didn’t seem pleased with Ravi Ashwin, who fell out of contention from the limited-overs formats since July 2017. Doshi said that the Tamil Nadu spinner is steady, but hasn’t brushed his skills enough. Ashwin, presently, plays Test cricket for India and has also featured in County Cricket for quite a few sides.

“I still think Jadeja is the best spinner in this side. Ashwin has not improved over the years. I agree he is steady, but I feel he has not improved to a level where he should have been for whatever reason it may be,” Doshi was quoted as saying to The Times of India (TOI).

I like Nathan Lyon, says Doshi

Doshi feared that the quality of spinners is going down by the day and he felt that spin-bowling is going though a phase of turbulence. Nevertheless, Doshi likes watching Australian off-spin bowler Nathan Lyon, who has tasted success in most conditions.

Doshi reckons that Lyon has an easy-going action and he is also impressed by the tweaker’s positive attitude. In 96 Tests, Lyon has 390 wickets with as many as 18 five-wicket hauls. He is deemed to be the greatest spinner Australia have produced after the legendary Shane Warne.

“I would hate to say the art is dying, but it definitely is in a problematic phase. Spin bowling all over the world is very ordinary now. But if you ask me, I like Nathan Lyon among modern-day spinners. He has a classical action and good attitude too. Otherwise, I don’t see any hope,” he added.

Doshi was a kind of spinner, who didn’t resort to much of an experimentation. As per Doshi, one has to master the stock delivery and the art of spin bowling has a lot of muscle memory.
