Reports: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to buy an IPL team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian skipper in the shorter formats of the game and West Bengal tycoon Sanjeev Goenka have shown interest in acquiring Indian Premier League teams which will be up for a catch.
Both Dhoni and Goenka have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they have the requisite support to buy an IPL team, whose base price starts from Rs 40 crore onwards.
Goenka, who heads Kolkata-based RPG-Sanjeev Goenka group, has shown interest in buying a team from any other city apart from Kolkata, whose franchise is currently owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Goenka, who co-owns the Atletico de Kolkata team in Indian Super League (ISL), has been encouraged to invest in the Indian premiere league by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, his co-partner in his football project.
MS Dhoni has represented the Chennai franchise(Chennai Super Kings) for the last eight years in the Indian Premiere League. Chennai Super Kings, are currently facing a two-year suspension after the Supreme Court-led panel ordered a ban for CSK and the Rajasthan Royals from the IPL for two years.
Dhoni can ponder on the option of choosing from nine venues that have been mentioned by the BCCI for two new teams, the walk-in bids for which will be entertained on December 8.
The nine cities include Ahmedabad, Indore and Kanpur while Jaipur and Kochi have been barred because of unknown reasons.
