Reports: Mike Hesson receives coaching offer from Bangladesh and Pakistan; declines them
He was not keen on getting the coaching role of any other team but India was his only go.
Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has reportedly declined a couple of offers from the subcontinent. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were the two subcontinent sides that hoped to rope in Mike Hesson as their national team’s coach after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reappointed Ravi Shashtri as their coach and snubbed Hesson’s entry into to the mix.
The three-person Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of former Indian World Cup-winning Captain Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shanta Rangaswamy, was given the responsibility to interview the shortlisted candidates who are on the verge of becoming the next Indian national team head coach.
Hesson was only interested in coaching Team India
According to stuff.co.nz, Hesson did not apply for the vacant coaching positions with Pakistan or Bangladesh subsequent to missing the Indian job. It was reported that India was the only international team which Mike Hesson had the interest to coach, and when that opportunity was unaccepted he received offers from PCB and BCB which he declined.
Over the past few days, speculations grew over Hesson’s likely future with the subcontinent giants, after he quit the Kings XI Punjab’s coaching staff just the day after Pakistan’s coach Mickey Arthur and his entire coaching staff were sacked by PCB. And also, he was linked with BCB as one of the candidates who set to take the coaching duties of Bangladesh side.
Mike Hesson, who coached New Zealand to 2015 Cricket World Cup final, is reportedly not hearing any offers to coach an international team or give up his commentary job with Star Sports. During his six-year tenure as the coach of New Zealand side, Hesson is the man who actually revolutionized the playing style of New Zealand team and he is known for wit work.
Under his regime, New Zealand played 53 Tests which resulted in 21 wins and 13 draws, won 65 out of 119 one-day internationals and 30 out of 59 T20Is. In 2018, Hesson was announced as the coach of KXIP which finished sixth in the points table of IPL 2018.
Last week, all the rumored speculations came to an end as Bangladesh named their new head coach in Russell Domingo who previously coached South Africa.
