Roston Chase, Stafanie Taylor sweep top honors at CWI Annual awards
Stafanie Taylor took the top honors among the female cricketers.
Windies all-rounder Roston Chase has bagged the top honor at the Cricket West Indies Annual awards function. The function took place recently on June 7. Chase was rewarded with the Men’s Cricketer of the Year award and also the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. While the all-rounder managed to bag the top honors in the men’s category, the women’s team skipper Stafanie took the top honors among the female cricketers.
She was named as the Women’s ODI Cricketer and the Women’s T20 Cricketer of the year. Things did not stop there for the young all-rounder of the Women’s side. She also managed to bag the Women’s Cricket of the Year. In addition to the top two awards in the men’s cricket, Roston Chase also managed to bag two more prizes. He was named as the Emerging Cricketer of the Year. Also, he was awarded with the Regional Four Day Cricketer of the Year.
Roston Chase has emerged as the new found crisis man for the Windies team. He made his Test debut in 2016 and went on to rack up 3 tons and 3 fifties since then. His consistent performances in the longest format of the game earned him the spot in the limited overs format recently. The memorable knocks for Chase came during one of the Test matches against India last year. More recently, he hit a couple of tons against Pakistan in the home series.
Other honors
Windies limited overs skipper Jason Holder was given the ODI cricketer of the year. Also, the all-rounder Andre Russell was rewarded with the T20I Player of the Year. Meanwhile, veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and spinner Ashley Nurse were given the regional awards in T20 and 50-over formats respectively. Among the teams, team Guyana won the First Class team of the year and also the U19 team of the year.
Talking about the team form, Windies men’s side recently lost 3-1 to India in the 50-over home series. The women’s side is having a disappointing run in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.
