England swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings who was a part of the Delhi Daredevils squad has been immensely influenced by their mentor Rahul Dravid and hopes to carry out the off-field lessons learnt from the legendary figure in the upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled to be played from 1st June to 19th June in England and Wales.

Billings has been overawed by Dravid’s calming influence and feels it was a lifetime experience to share the dressing room with such an experienced cricketer.’ The Wall’ which he was famously knows as during his playing days have helped the young bunch of cricketers a lot which has shown in the performances of the youngsters in the DD camp. Though they have been inconsistent but in patches, they have shown their destructive approach which will be ominous signs for future.

“I just enjoy talking to him, whether it’s about life or cricket. He is very calm and offers his insights and has lots of experience,” Billings was quoted as saying by News 18. “Obviously Rahul’s just a little bit more in terms of that (experience). So, yes, I think with experience I just look to progress and as long as I can continue with the same attitude and work hard… have a good attitude towards life and cricket, you’re going to improve. So, yeah, really looking forward to a home Champions Trophy,” he further added.

The home team start of their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh at the Kennington Oval in London. They narrowly missed out on winning the title four years ago losing to India by a mere 5 runs. “We’re playing at home and it’s always special to perform in front of your own fans,” Billings said.

Billings was in the limited overs squad for the series against Ireland but didn’t bat in the 1st match. He donned the wicket-keeping gloves on both occasions which might work in his favour as the champions Trophy arrives. “I think every competition you play in around the world, every country you play in, and every coach or player you come across, you can get something out of everyone,” Billings said when asked whether it would be difficult to adjust to his new role in the middle order.

He said that the conditions won’t be like India and the ball will have carry and swing. “It would be different conditions than what it is here. The ball will have carry and swing. It will be a difficult tournament and all teams are strong,” Billings signed off.
