Sanjay Manjrekar feels India should make just one change to playing eleven for Sydney Test
Team India will be without Rohit Sharma in this game as he has returned home.
At a time when India’s focus should have been entirely on how to draw or win the upcoming fourth and final Test against Australia, they are facing quite a few selection conundrums. India are on the verge of creating history Down Under. A win in the third Test has not only given them an unassailable lead but has also given them a huge opportunity of ending their long wait for their first-ever Test series win on Australian soil.
However, before the start of the game, the Indian team management will have to spend a lot of time for deciding the final eleven. The first and foremost will be to find a replacement for Rohit Sharma who has flown back to India to attend the birth of his first child. In the last game, Rohit had batted at his usual number six and scored an impressive 63 in the first innings of the MCG Test.
On the other hand, Hanuma Vihari was promoted as an opener to start the innings alongside Mayank Agarwal. But as Rohit is not with the team anymore, the team management is likely to come up with a new combination for the much-awaited fourth Test.
Sanjay Manjrekar’s pick:
Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar feels that India should make just one change to the team that won the third Test. The cricketer-turned-commentator feels that either of KL Rahul or Murali Vijay should return to the playing eleven to replace Rohit for the last Test.
“Rahul or M.Vijay for Rohit, the only change India should make for the Sydney Test,” tweeted Manjrekar.
India, meanwhile, are also sweating on the fitness of their spin spearhead R Ashwin. The off-spinner had missed the last two Tests due to an abdominal strain he had sustained in the series-opener. And although he has been named in the 13-man list, he is yet to recover fully.
On the other hand, Rahul has also been named in the 13-man squad while Vijay has missed out. In case, Ashwin fails to recover in time, Rahul is likely to open the innings while Vihari will be asked to bat in the middle-order again.
