Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on May 12 (Thursday) re-appointed senior player Bismah Maroof as the skipper of Pakistan for the 2022-23 cycle. The Women in Green had a horrible run during the 2022 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand as they could win only one of their seven round-robin matches and were knocked out in the league stage.

However, the cricket board of Pakistan has put their faith in the senior player once again. To note, Maroof was named Pakistan captain in 2016. The 30-year-old has represented Pakistan in 115 ODIs and has amassed a total of 2793 runs at an average of 28.50. With the ball, she has scalped 44 wickets. In T20Is, Bismah has played 108 matches and has scored 2225 runs and has also scalped 36 wickets. The senior player has the highest score of 99 and has also stroked 26 fifties including both white-ball formats.

We are excited and geared up for the challenges: Bismah Maroof

“It is truly an honor for any cricketer to captain their country and it is a great privilege for me to continue in this role. The 2022-23 cricket season is the busiest for Pakistan women’s side and we are excited and geared up for the challenges it presents,” Maroof was quoted by Cricbuzz.

There was a time when I contemplated giving up on my passion for playing cricket, but the PCB ensured it never came to that with the introduction of the maternity policy, which has made the game as inclusive as it can be for the women in our country. I also want to thank my family and especially my husband, Abrar,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Women in Green have a big season coming up as they will play at least 25 limited-over games including the Women’s T20 Asia Cup and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan will host Sri Lanka in Karachi for a limited-overs series of three T20Is and the same number of ODIs.
