'See you at the Gabba mate' - Prithi Ashwin hilariously mocks Tim Paine after India's monumental win
On Tuesday, Team India made Tim Paine eat his words by thrashing Australia at the Gabba.
Tim Paine’s ‘Gabba’ sledge at Ravichandran Ashwin has come back to haunt him as India thrashed Australia by three wickets in the fourth Test at the venue which is considered their fortress. Australia had not lost a Test in Brisbane’s Gabba since 1988 when West Indies had defeated them. And the home side was favourite to win the just-concluded Test too.
With Team India without a host of their key players including the likes of Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja among others, Australia were the favourites against the depleted visitors. Perhaps that was the reason why Paine had tried to get under the skin of Ashwin during the third Test by reminding him of the venue for the fourth Test.
When Ashwin was involved in a feisty match-saving partnership with Hanuma Vihari on the final day of the third Test, Paine had told the spin spearhead: “I can’t wait to get you to the Gabba Ash I’ll tell you what, woo hoo”. Not the one to back down, Ashwin had hit back at the wicketkeeper by telling him: “Just like we want to get you to India that will be your last series.” The sledging concluded on a nasty note with Paine abusing the India spin spearhead.
Prithi Ashwin mocks Tim Paine
On Tuesday, Team India made Tim Paine eat his words by thrashing Australia at the Gabba. In the wake of the defeat, the Australia skipper has become the butt of all the jokes on social media. Prithi Ashwin, the wife of the India off-spinner, also joined the bandwagon to poke some fun at Paine. Prithi, who was following the series closely, took to Twitter after the game ended and cheekily wrote, “SEE YOU AT THE GABBA MATE.”
As far as the game is concerned, India chased down a record 328 at the famous venue to register the series-clinching win. Rishabh Pant starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 89 to take the team home with just three overs remaining. Before Pant’s effort, opener Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara laid the foundation by scoring fine fifties.
