Shane Bond says he would love to be involved in the IPL as head coach
Shane Bond has a running contract with Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has expressed his interest in taking up the role of head coach in the Indian Premier League. The 42-year old Kiwi has shrugged off talks of him joining the Three Lions in the upcoming Ashes series against Australia. England’s bowling coach Ottis Gibson has resigned from his position and has taken up the role of head coach in the South African set up.
Bond is currently working as the New Zealand A coach for the upcoming tour of India. Both the sides will take part in a a couple of 4-day matches and a series of 5 ODI games. Apart from his national assignments, Bond is also the bowling coach of the Brisbane Heat side in the Big Bash League. The black-cap has his contract running with Mumbai Indians too, in the IPL.
Got my sight on head coach’s role: Bond
“I’ve got my sights on a head coaching role, but it’s how it all lines up with everything else in your life. I’ve got great opportunities with Brisbane and the IPL and I really enjoy them,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Bond as saying.
“My kids are at an age where I want to be around and not miss too much. Every opportunity you’ve got to look at and weigh up what’s best for the important people around you. I’d love to be involved with the IPL [as a head coach]. I love the New Zealand cricket team and would like to have another period of involvement. I’m just not quite sure when that’s going to be,” Bond said.
We will have to wait and watch if the talismanic pacer gets the top-job in the IPL. The Indian T20 league is one of the most popular leagues in the cricketing world and many former players have eyed their interest in the IPL. Interestingly, Bond’s former skipper Stephen Fleming is likely to take up the coach’s role for Chennai Super Kings again.
