Shane Watson dropped for the 2nd Ashes test will be replaced by Mitchell Marsh: The Australian management has made it clear that they are in no need of Shane Watson’s services in the 2nd Ashes test as he has been dropped for the team for the next game. Mitchell Marsh has been called in to fill in Watson’s shoes.

The decision clearly signals that Watson’s test career is in jeopardy. While the decision to replace the famed Watson with a rather inexperienced rookie like Marsh may seem a bit surprising it is evident that the Aussie selectors have high hopes pinned on Marsh. Earlier the Aussies were stumped as Brad Haddin withdrew from the Ashes series citing personal reasons.

Watson was in dismal form coming into the Ashes and continued the same with lack luster performances that further dug his grave. He was out lbw twice in the match, for 30 and 19, meaning he has been dismissed in that manner on 29 occasions in his career, and there is a feeling that England’s bowlers simply know how to get him out.

As for Marsh’s bowling, Lehmann said at a function hosted by Hardys Australia at Lord’s on Monday night that “only time will tell, won’t it” if it can be a handy asset for Australia.
“He’s going to get his opportunity somewhere – there’s no doubt about that in the future, whether it’s this Test match or down the track,”

“We’ve got to put him under the microscope and see how he goes.” Lehmann said.
