There is a huge uncertainty surrounding the IPL matches which are to be hosted in Maharashtra due to the drought problems the state is facing currently. The Supreme Court has even suggested the BCCI to shift match outside the venues in Maharashtra, i.e. Mumbai, Pune and Vidarbha.

Reacting to the ongoing issue of shifting matches out of Maharashtra due to severe water crisis in the state, former Indian cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman has said that it is not the solution to the problem.

He says that the root cause of the problem must be identified and shifting the matches won’t be a proper solution at all.

When asked about his take on the issue, Laxman said, “You will have to find the root cause of the problem. Shifting matches from Mumbai will not be the solution. I am sure the government is looking into it.”

Laxman also added that he feels for the farmers and for all the places which have been suffering due to drought.

“I feel for the farmers, what they are going through. Due to the monsoon, there is a shortage of water not only in Maharashtra but in the entire country,” he said.

Laxman also added that even though people try to find out negatives from the Indian Premier League, the tournament has not only helped several individuals but the economy as well.

The high court questioned BCCI and the three state associations in Maharashtra on why water should be “wasted” on hosting IPL 2016 matches when the state is facing one of its worst-ever droughts. The court says that ideally Indian Premier League (IPL) matches should be shifted elsewhere, where there is no water crisis.
