Shikhar Dhawan who has been out of the Indian side due to a thumb injury is currently in Chennai to represent Delhi against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy. He was pretty destructive in his approach and treated the bowlers with disdain at a practice session to prove that he had fully recuperated from his thumb fracture and is raring to go.

With KL Rahul down with an injury and expected to miss the following Test, Dhawan might as well be called to open the batting for India in the 4th Test at Mumbai starting 8th December. After a short yet intense net session, Dhawan spoke to the media regarding his recovery and also on the healthy competition among the players for the opening slot.

“I’m feeling fit. It’s nice to play a Ranji match again after a long time. My preparation remains the same for every match, be it domestic or international,” Dhawan who has fully recuperated from the thumb injury which he suffered during the 2nd Test against New Zealand at Kolkata said.

The left-hander also stated that the growing competition might help the team strive for betterment. “It’s (competition) always nice to have as that will make us perform consistently. It’s unfortunate that Rahul is injured, and I hope he makes a quick recovery,” added the hard-hitting left-hander.

Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin who has had a terrific series so far with both the bat and ball, Dhawan said, Ashwin is working hard on his bowling while simultaneously developing into an effective all-rounder. “He looks fluent and times the ball well and the runs he contributes can deflate the opponents”.

Finally sharing his thoughts on playing with his opening partner Murali Vijay, Dhawan said, “It’s good to see him (Vijay) consolidate his position. Playing with him brings the best out of me. We keep talking about cricket and enjoy each other’s presence”.
