Shikhar Dhawan was sad on being dropped from the Test team
Dhawan had a lean run in England and since then has been out of the Test team.
He played just one Test on the tour of South Africa and after a lean patch in England, Shikhar Dhawan was dropped from the team for the home Tests against Windies as well as the subsequent tour of Australia. Dhawan didn’t have a remarkable run in the ODIs either but returned to form in the T20I series against the Caribbeans. The left-hander was sad to have been dropped from the Test team but is doing better now.
He was in Australia for the T20Is and ended the three-match series as the Player of the series. Dhawan has now moved on from the initial feeling of disappointment and is in a good frame of mind. He is happy now and when he is in this kind of a state things work out much better.
“Yes, I was a bit sad but I have moved on and I am in a good frame of mind. I am in a happy positive mood. I am enjoying my game. I have got a bit off time and I am going to enjoy my training and get myself fitter. I am happy and once I am happy things go well for me,” Dhawan told ESPNCricinfo.
Good chance to win the series
The Indian selectors instead picked KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw and Murali Vijay as the three opening options for the series. The southpaw is certain they have a really solid chance of winning the series this time if they play good and complete cricket. He thinks consistency in all the three departments of the game is the key to success in Australia.
“I think we have got a very good chance to win the series here. We have to play good complete cricket in all three departments whether it’s batting, bowling or fielding and also catching. We have to be consistent and then we will have a good chance of beating Australia,” Dhawan added.
Want to score a lot of runs in the World Cup
Limited-overs cricket is his forte and the entire buildup right now is leading into the World Cup 2019 to be played in England. That’s one place where Dhawan has done exceptionally well. In the meantime, he wants to get the process right as he believes that if the process is in place everything else will follow.
“I am going to give my best. I am a big believer in process and once I get it right, other things will follow on its own. Of course, we would like to bring the World Cup back home,” he exuded confidence.
“I have done well in both Champions Trophies in England and with my experience, I hope to score a lot of runs in World Cup and give good starts and sail through so that we can get the Cup back,” Dhawan stated.
