The 52nd league match of the ongoing BBL edition between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades witnessed a spectacular piece of fielding when Renegades' Will Sutherland clung onto one of the best catches of the tournament to dismiss Nick Hobson.

Renegades skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and invited the reigning champions to bat first in the contest. Scorchers got off to a flying start thanks to a breathtaking half-century by Stephen Eskinazi. They were well poised to post a daunting total on the board before Renegades struck with a flurry of wickets in the middle overs, with Nick Hobson's dismissal being the highlight of the innings.

Hobson, in an attempt to up the ante, tried to loft the ball over the inner ring during Tom Roger's 17th over. However, he could only manage to slice the ball with Will Sutherland giving chase. For a moment it looked the pacer had misjudged the trajectory of the ball and wrongfooted himself, but he turned his body mid-air to snaffle a one-handed stunner. His skipper Aaron Finch, who was nearest to him on the field, could not believe what he had just seen and mobbed his pacer in delight.

Bancroft's well-compiled innings helps Scorchers to a massive total

The defending champions weren't too perturbed by that wicket as Cameron Bancroft continued his assault from one end, smashing an unbeaten 95 off just 50 deliveries. His innings, coupled with Cooper Connolly's late blitz, guided the three-time champions to a daunting total of 212 runs on the board.

Finch's bowlers did not have the best of days in the field as right-arm pacer David Moody was taken off the attack in the very first over of the match after dishing out two waist-high no balls, one of which hit Bancroft on the ribs. Sutherland, who took that stunning catch, was taken for plenty, leaking 46 runs in his four-over quota.
