England are having a hard time in the ongoing game against South Africa in Match 11 of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Stadium, Karachi. The side lost half their side after hardly adding 100 runs on the scoreboard, as Proteas bowlers seemed to be having the batters all over the place.

Experienced batter Joe Root's dismissal summed up how the Three Lions have fared in the game against the Proteas so far. A straight delivery by pacer Wiaan Mulder saw Root fail to pick the line of the ball and a wrong shot selection had his stumps rattled, as the batter departed after scoring 37 off 44 balls, putting England in deeper trouble.

Buttler bats in last game as England captain

Meanwhile, the ongoing game is significant for England and their captain Jos Buttler, who will step down from the position following this game. At the time of writing, Buttler was batting alongside no. 9 Jofra Archer, with the team teetering at 147/7 after 29 overs.

The experienced wicketkeeper-batter's decision comes amid the English side's shambolic performances over the last couple of years.

"I am gonna stand down as England captain. It's a right decision for me, a right decision for the team. And hopefully, somebody else can come in and work closely alongside Brendon McCullum to take the team back to where it needs to be. (On what made him arrive at this decision) It was quite clear. This was an important tournament -  results-wise, for my captaincy. Two losses and being out of the tournament (and) a bit of a hangover from some tournaments before, just probably reached the end of the road for my captaincy, which I am ashamed and sad about," Buttler said while announcing his decision on Friday.
