Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's head coach is set to end after the forthcoming T20 World Cup next month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to appoint a new individual at the helm to spearhead the Men in Blue after the showpiece event.

As per multiple reports, Gautam Gambhir, who mentored Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this month, is leading the race to become the next head coach of India. Amid these reports, former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly put out a tweet, stressing the importance of choosing a coach wisely.

"The coach's significance in one's life, their guidance, and relentless training shape the future of any person, both on and off the field. So choose the coach and institution wisely," the Prince of Kolkata wrote on his official 'X' handle.

While Ganguly didn't mention BCCI or the Indian team in his tweet, some fans have opined that the legendary cricketer could be against the possible appointment of Gambhir as the head coach. The cricketer-turned-commentator also received flak from some fans for his tweet.

Interestingly, there have been no moments of animosity (caught on camera) between Gambhir and Ganguly. However, there is some history between the two former India teammates. Ganguly captained KKR in the first and the third seasons of the IPL before Gambhir replaced him. Under the Delhi batter's astute leadership, KKR won the coveted IPL title in 2012 and 2014.

During an encounter between KKR and Ganguly-led Sahara Pune Warriors in 2012 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, the crowd was divided and it was a sight to behold. Ganguly's fans came out in numbers to support Pune but KKR's loyal fans were also present to cheer for the home side. Eventually, the hosts won the match by seven runs.

Ganguly continues to share a healthy relationship with KKR's principal owner Shah Rukh Khan. The two stalwarts from different fields were seen warmly embracing each other during KKR's IPL 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals, where Ganguly serves as the Director of Cricket.

Some fans, however, feel that Ganguly remembered his well-documented difficult times during Greg Chappell's tenure as India's head coach and went on to post the tweet. The last date for applications for India's head coach's role was May 27.
