Gill took off his helmet and revelled in the applause from a full house crowd in Ahmedabad after smashing his third century in four matches. He joined batting greats Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler to become only the third batter to breach the 800-run mark in a single season of IPL. He also joined the two icons in a prestigious list of three or more centuries in a single edition of the tournament.

The young opener also became the young batter to breach the three-figure mark in the knockout stages of the tournament. By the time he was done with his innings, he registered the highest individual score in playoffs history, helping his side to their highest total in IPL history.
