Team India have been simply phenomenal in their first innings of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad. Moreover, it was none other than star batter and former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, who led from the front on day 4, after Shubman Gill's century. Kohli along with Gill steadied the ship after India lost Pujara early. The duo stitched a crucial stand of 58 runs to set up a strong platform for India against the Aussies.

At one stage, India were struggling with 393/5 on the board. However, Virat Kohli ensured to take the game deep and inch closer to Australia's first innings score of 480. Thereafter, Kohli showed his batting masterclass and remained in total control by holding one end for the team. Post the fall of 5 wickets, the former skipper stitched another emphatic partnership with all-rounder, Axar Patel. Both the batters shared 162-run stand which piloted India to gain a lead of 75 runs over Australia.

It is worth mentioning that Kohli ended his century drought of 3.5 years and it cannot have been a better time than scoring his 28th Test century for a match saving cause which may turn out to be a match winning one as well. Furthermore, the Delhi-born added another 86 runs before India's innings came to an end with 571 runs. This meant that the hosts gained a lead of 91 runs against Australia.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's wife and Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma surprisingly revealed that Kohli played with sickness without revealing details about it. "Playing through sickness with this composure. Inspiring me always," Anushka mentioned in her Instagram story post Kohli's marathon knock.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer did not come out to bat for India as he has been suffering from a back injury and could not take part in the fourth Test ahead after day 2.

Kohli's ton sets up India's comeback with a possibility of a result on final day

Courtesy of centuries from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill in the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India finished their day with a significant lead of 90 runs. Consequently, in the last session of day 4, Australia came out to bat with six overs remaining for the close of play. The visitors did get some initial scares of losing a wicket as Matthew Kuhnemann's catch was dropped by KS Bharat on the last ball of the sixth over.

In what should be a thrilling encounter for the both sides, India currently need to dismiss Australia as soonest possible to hope for a final day result in their favour, while Australia need to grind hard to either see through the day for a draw result or either play attacking cricket to hopefully give them a sniff of a win by setting a target for India on the final day. Notably, team India currently retain the Test series with a lead of 2-1.
