IND vs AUS: Shubman Gill fashions new look helmet in fourth Test
The grill provides an extra layer of safety for the close-in fielders, protecting the neck region of the fielder.
During the ongoing fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, young Indian opener Shubman Gill was seen donning a new-look helmet while stationed near the batter on strike.
Following a special felicitation ceremony ahead of the fourth Test, the visitors made a strong start to the morning session. Travis Head and Usman Khawaja compiled a 61-run opening stand, their highest in the four-match series so far. During the 15th over of the match, Indian dasher Shubman Gill was seen with a new-look helmet.
The grill provides an extra layer of safety for the close-in fielders, protecting the neck region of the fielder. Gill, who was stationed at short leg, comes in the firing line of the batters against the slower bowlers. The improved helmet is a much-needed addition for the well-being of the close-in fielders as it can protect the fielder from potentially fatal injuries.
India hit back with quick wickets after a solid start by Australia
While the Australians bossed the first hour of the morning session, the home side hit back with the wicket of Travis Head in the second over after the drinks break. While Ashwin sent back the dangerous southpaw, Mohammed Shami got a delivery to nip back sharply to rattle Marnus Labuschagne's stumps.
Earlier in the day, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese, handed the Test cap to Rohit Sharma. Albanese also handed the Test cap to his compatriot Steve Smith, who is leading the side in the fourth Test match as well in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins. While Australia have already sealed their place in the WTC final, India will be looking to seal their berth in the final with a victory in the final Test match of the series.
