WPL 2023: Kiran Navgire reveals secret behind her ‘MSD 07’ bat
Kiran Navgire scored a half-century in her very first game of the 2023 WPL where 'MSD 07' was seen inscribed on her bat
UP Warriorz batter Kiran Navgire has burst onto the scene thanks to her performances in the ongoing inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. In the four matches she has played, Navgire has managed to notch up 72 runs, which includes one half-century.
She scored 53 runs off 43 deliveries in her very first game of the WPL against Gujarat Giants where an image of Navgire’s bat went viral as ‘MSD 07’ was seen inscribed on it. There was a lot of discussion around the reason why Dhoni’s name is inscribed on her bat, and finally Navgire came forward to spill the beans on the topic.
"The gear from my sponsor got delayed, so I got some of my old bats from the WPL. When I practice at home in Pune, when we watch live matches or highlights, after practice we sit at the ground, knocking the bat," Navgire said in a video shared by UP Warriorz.
"So, before coming to the WPL, I was sitting with my friends after a practice session, and we were discussing about MS Dhoni, sir. I was speaking about it him and instinctively wrote ‘MSD 07’ on my bat. I wrote it because whenever I talk or discuss about him, I write down his name somewhere," she added.
Navgire has been unable to impress after her half-century against Gujarat Giants
Navgire made quite the start to the 2023 WPL with a half century against Gujarat Giants, however, she has been unable to score big runs following that game. After registering their first win, UPW took on Delhi Capitals, where Navgire scored only two runs and her side faced defeat.
In their latest match, Navgire scored 17 runs as UPW took on Mumbai Indians, which they lost as well. They will now be going up against Royal Challengers Bangalore once again as they look to register their third win of the season.
