NZ vs IND: Sanju Samson spotted helping groundstaff amid persistent rain in Hamilton
Sanju Samson scored 38 off 36 deliveries in the first ODI.
Social media once again went berserk on Sunday (November 27) morning when the Indian team dropped Sanju Samson from the second ODI match against New Zealand. However, it had no adverse effect on Samson as he was spotted helping the ground staff at Seddon Park when the match was interrupted due to rain.
The ground staff at Hamilton was working tirelessly to resume the game after a rain break and that’s when Samson joined them to help as Rajasthan Royals shared the video on their social media platform.
Charismatic batter Suryakumar Yadav too was seen interacting with the ground staff during the rain break and eventually helping them with their work. “The @seddonparknz ground staff gets some assistance from Suryakumar Yadav,” the New Zealand team tweeted on their official Twitter account.
Meanwhile, trailing in the ODI series, India were in desperate need of a win to bring the series on level terms. However, rain played a spoil sport as the umpires decided to call off the game. India were 22 for no loss after 4.5 overs when the rain first started pouring in at Hamilton. It took some time for the covers to come off as the onfield umpires decided to reduce the match to 29 overs per innings.
Soon after the match resumed, team India lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan as Suryakumar Yadav was promoted up in order to accelerate India’s run rate in the middle. Along with youngster Shubman Gill, the duo established a strong start when the rain gods interrupted the game again.
India were 89 for one after 12.5 overs when the umpires decided to stop the game as it started raining again. Suryakumar Yadav in the meantime was batting at 34 from 25 deliveries while Gill scored 45 off 42 deliveries. The game being called off means that the Indian team will have to win the third ODI to finish the series on level terms.
