ODI World Cup 2023: Top 10 Memes from IND vs SL, Match 33
In match 33 of the ODI World Cup 2023, India beat Sri Lanka by 302 runs
In the 33rd match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, India faced Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and chose to field first.
India had a disastrous start as their captain and key batter, Rohit Sharma, was dismissed on just the second ball of the match. Then, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli came together at the crease and took some time to settle in before playing their shots freely.
The partnership between Gill and Kohli looked promising, with both batters looking set to score centuries. However, Dilshan Madushanka interrupted their plans. Gill fell for 92, attempting an upper cut shot, while Kohli was caught at short cover for 88, missing out on a chance to equal Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most hundreds in ODI cricket.
Shreyas Iyer, who had been under question for his batting form in the tournament, came to the crease and showcased his prowess by scoring a brilliant 82 off just 56 balls. He hit three fours and six sixes to boost India's total to 357. Ravindra Jadeja (35 runs off 24 balls) also played a cameo towards the end to contribute to the team's massive score.
In their chase, Sri Lanka struggled against the Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah struck early by dismissing Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball of the innings. Mohammed Siraj followed up with a double-wicket maiden over, leaving Sri Lanka reeling at four wickets down for just three runs on the board.
Mohammed Shami joined the party in the tenth over, bowling a double-wicket maiden and then taking two more wickets. Sri Lanka collapsed to a mere 55 runs, suffering a defeat by a margin of 302 runs.
Shami ended the game with a five-wicket haul, taking his tally to 14 wickets in the tournament. Siraj also impressed with three wickets, while Bumrah and Jadeja took one each.
