PAK vs NZ: Iceland Cricket mocks PCB after Kiwi openers make Pakistan bowlers toil hard in second Test
New Zealand ended the first day's play by posting 309/6 against Pakistan.
Iceland Cricket has once again come forward to have fun at Pakistan’s expense after they showcased a poor bowling performance on Day 1 of the second Test match against New Zealand at the National Cricket Arena in Karachi. The New Zealand openers Devon Conway (122) and Tom Latham (71) made the most of the flat track as they laid a solid foundation with a 134-run first wicket stand.
Iceland Cricket took to its official Twitter handle and mocked the Pakistani bowlers’ inability to trouble the Kiwi openers Latham and Conway who made merry by registering a century partnership on the “Karachi road.”
Furthermore, the cricket board hilariously took an indirect jibe at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by saying that they should introduce some “tolls” and “tax” the run.
Pakistani bowlers stage a good comeback in the final session
Conway and Latham seemed to be taking the BlackCaps to a mammoth total at one point before the latter’s wicket gave the hosts some sigh of relief. However, Conway and skipper Kane Williamson (36), were then involved 100-run stand for the second wicket before the centurion was sent back to the pavilion.
The southpaw’s wicket opened up the floodgates for the Pakistan bowlers as Williamson followed soon and the middle-order suffered a dramatic collapse soon after as the visitors found themselves reeling at 279/6. The middle-order duo of wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell (30*) and Ish Sodhi (11*) then batted cautiously from there on to ensure that there were no further hiccups as the Kiwis succeeded in getting past 300.
New Zealand finished the day at 309/6 and the onus will now be on Blundell and Sodhi to power their side to a competitive total when play resumes on Day 2. Meanwhile, this is a very important Test match from Pakistan’s point of view.
Having lost the previous home Test series to Australia and England, the Babar Azam-led side will now be hoping to salvage pride by winning the ongoing series against the reigning WTC champions.
