'They have all bases covered' - Shahid Afridi impressed with India's performance against New Zealand
Afridi also praised spinner Varun Chakravarthy highly.
The Indian team has been having a great campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025 where they have gone unbeaten in the group stage. The previous game they played was against New Zealand whom they convincingly beat by a margin of 44 runs at the Dubai International Stadium while defending a target of 250.
The star of the match was mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who took a five-wicket haul in his first game of the tournament. The New Zealand batters could not pick the variations of the 33-year-old spinner who completely foxed them. A lot of former cricketers and experts have praised his performance including former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi who took to social media to talk about Chakravarthy’s incredible spell and also mentioned that the Men in Blue have all bases covered going into the playoffs.
“Another great win for India! They have all bases covered for the conditions with potent batting and a formidable spin attack. Varun Chakravarthy has great variety and control and gives further depth to the bowling attack,” Shahid Afridi wrote on X.

India to take on Australia in semi-final
Australia has always been one of the biggest threats for India in ICC knockout games. The Men in Blue will be facing them in the upcoming semi-final at the Dubai International Stadium on March 4.
The last time India beat Australia in an ICC knockout match was in the 2011 ODI World Cup where they faced them in the quarter-finals in Ahmedabad. The star of the match was Yuvraj Singh who changed the game for the team with his all-round performance, taking two wickets and playing a crucial knock of 57 off 65 deliveries to win the game and make sure his team went through to the semi-finals.
