'This team would have made it to the final as well' - Michael Vaughan picks his alternate Indian Champions Trophy XI
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan picks his alternate Indian playing XI and leaves out some big names within the team.
The Champions Trophy 2025 was another moment of celebration for the Indian team. The Men in Blue went on to win their seventh ICC title and became the most successful team in the tournament history.
The team received a little bit of criticism ahead of the tournament for picking a lot of spinners and also leaving out some big names. However, they exceeded expectations and went on to win the tournament, going undefeated for five straight games.
Meanwhile, some experts believe that India would have been as good as the champion team even if they had included a different set of players. One of the experts who has made his own alternate eleven is former England skipper Michael Vaughan who left out some big names but still backed them to make it to the finals.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi…. This team would have made it to the final as well IMO,” Vaughan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“The strength in Indian cricket in white ball is off the scale, Let’s be honest India are the best team in the world in white ball cricket by a decent margin .. Thoroughly deserved to Win .. T20 holders/Champions trophy holders .. Now down to rest to try and catch up,” Vaughan added.
What is next for Indian cricket?
The Indian stars will be playing in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Post that, the team will be playing a Test series against England starting in June. The series will feature five matches with the first one to be played on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
