Twitter Reactions: De Kock's yet another farewell masterclass helps South Africa thrash Bangladesh by 149 runs
South Africa won the match by a significant margin of 149 runs in Match 23 of the ODI World Cup 2023
In a highly anticipated match at the 2023 ODI World Cup, South Africa faced off against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Winning the toss, South Africa chose to set the target, and their innings got off to a slow start. They faced an early setback with the departures of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen. However, the dynamic duo of Quinton de Kock and captain Aiden Markram stepped up to the challenge.
After Markram's exit, de Kock continued to shine, displaying remarkable form throughout the innings and scoring his third century in the tournament. Contributing to the cause, David Miller played a pivotal role in bolstering the South African innings. Heinrich Klaasen came very close to a century, but his efforts were crucial in setting a formidable total of 382/5 in their 50 overs.
Bangladesh, in response, faced a daunting task. The South African bowlers applied intense pressure, claiming the first five wickets within the first 15 overs. Bangladesh struggled to find their footing and failed to cope with the fierce pace and aggression of the South African attack.
Mahmudullah's brilliant effort goes in vain:
While Mahmudullah showed resilience with an outstanding century, amassing 111 runs, it proved insufficient to secure victory. In the end, South Africa emerged triumphant with a convincing 149-run margin, thanks in part to Gerald Coetzee's three-wicket haul. Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams, and Kagiso Rabada all took two wickets each.
