With the ICC establishing a deadline of May 1 for all the participating teams in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup to submit their preliminary 15-member squads as well as permitting only a single tweak in the introductory squad to be made by May 25, the March and April legs of the IPL would surely hold a lot of significance for every player, more so the Indians.

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad, like others, shared what they felt about the entire situation, with him expressing the players whom he thought should feature in the Indian squad for the impending marquee tournament, to be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies later this year.

In a tweet which ignited a flurry of engagement on social media platforms, the 54-year-old didn't include the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, into the scheme of things, with him rather going for the ever-dynamic Suryakumar Yadav, the explosive Shivam Dube, and the ruthless Rinku Singh. With these three already considered by him, he said that incorporating Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would leave a spot for only a wicketkeeper-batter to be brought into the group.

The exclusion of Hardik doesn't really come as a surprise, with him having had a run-of-the-mill start to the seventeenth edition of the IPL, with the bat and the ball, and if these two weren't enough - with the baton of captaincy too. Out of the four games so far (April 9, 2024), his side has managed to garner just a single victory.
