Sohaib Maqsood finds himself responsible for his inability to make it big
Currently, the batsman aims at performing well in domestic cricket in the imminent future and paving his way back to the Pakistan side very soon.
Sohaib Maqsood gained prominence in world cricket for being startlingly similar to veteran Pakistani cricketer, Inzamam-ul-Haq. Be it his tall built or his flamboyant strokeplay, Maqsood’s resemblance to Inzamam had allowed critics to hold great expectations from the young man. Recently, in an interview, he blamed himself for having failed to take his career to the next level.
Having made his debut for both the shorter formats back in 2013, Maqsood kicked off his career brilliantly with excellent performances in the first-class circuit. However, the 30-year-old has been unsuccessful in converting his candidature within the team to a permanent status. He made his last appearance for Pakistan in January 2016.
Blames “below par performances” for his downfall
Elucidating on his thoughts of having missed out on the chance to elevate his career. “I’d put that down to bad performances. When I was playing consistently, I had so many chances to convert starts into big innings. I let myself down with some below par performances,” he said while talking to PakPassion.
Further, Maqsood elaborated on the injuries that interfered with his progress.
“I have had a decent amount of injuries in my career, but that specific wrist injury threatened my career more than any other injury in the past…. I could not recover from this wrist injury as quickly as I was expecting to and that factor hampered my comeback to the international side,” he added.
On his part, the batsman has accrued 735 runs in 26 ODIs at a strike rate of 84.43 along with 221 runs in 20 T20Is. Besides playing for his national side, Maqsood has also been a part of the Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi franchises in different editions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
