There is no denying the fact that the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan share a great camaraderie with each other. And, it is not only restricted to their chemistry on the field but also off it. It was in the 2013 Champions Trophy that Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan strolled out to bat together for the very first time.

And, it wasn’t something that was pre-planned when the squad for the tournament was announced. But as they say, sometimes the best things happen out of the script. God has own funny way of creating magic. And, the union of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma turned out to be a game-changer not only for Team India but also for them individually.

Originally, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were scheduled to open the batting for Team India in the 2013 Champions Trophy. But Murali Vijay’s horrendous form coupled by Rohit Sharma’s long-standing struggles in the middle-order during the first five and a half years of his career prompted the then captain, MS Dhoni, to do what is now hailed as one of the biggest masterstrokes in Indian cricket: push Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.

Rest as they say is history. India not only went on to win the 2013 edition of the Champions Trophy but also went on to unearth what is now the best opening partnership in white-ball cricket. In 107 innings since that historic day in Cardiff, six years ago, the duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has racked up 4753 runs at an average of 44.83 which includes thirteen fifty-run stands and sixteen hundred-wicket partnerships.

The duo has been going strong for six years now and will be back in action in the upcoming Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh. And, you can see how their on-field shenanigans translate into camaraderie off it. Time and again, the duo and their families can be seen hanging out, and now adding another vindication to it, Dhawan posted a heartfelt video of him spending quality time with Rohit’s daughter Samaira. Dhawan captioned it as,” Some masti with adorable Samaira.”
