Sourav Ganguly feels Virat Kohli and selectors are the right people to take decision on MS Dhoni’s future
Ganguly weighs his opinion on the most-debated MS Dhoni topic.
India is currently hosting three-match T20I series and three-Test series against South Africa but much of the discussion in Indian cricket is around MS Dhoni and his future in international cricket. It’s been long that the former Indian captain was seen in the Indian team jersey. There were speculations over his retirement, which have not died yet.
The 38-year-old veteran stumper has not featured in Indian team since the World Cup 2019 semi-final exit. It was expected as his last assignment, before putting his guards down. However, the glove-man left everyone surprised by not only deciding against retiring but also taking a two-month break. After West Indies Tour, it looked that he might make a comeback against South Africa but he made himself unavailable for this series as well.
Recently, a throwback tweet by Virat Kohli sparked the rumours of Dhoni announcing his retirement, which became the top trend on social media at that time, which was later explained by the Indian skipper in the press conference ahead of the first T20I against South Africa in Dharamshala.
Sourav Ganguly talks about MS Dhoni’s retirement
Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, at a promotional event, was asked about the retirement of Dhoni, “I don’t know what the selectors think, what Virat Kohli thinks. They are the important persons, let them make the decision,” said Ganguly as quoted by Times Now.
Ganguly also praised the current Indian skipper over his performances and regarded him as the best batsman in the world but Steve Smith record also speaks for itself, “These are questions not to be answered. How does it matter? It’s about performance. Virat is the best in the world at the moment. So that’s what makes us happy. His records speak for itself. 26 Test hundreds are a phenomenal record.”
The Indian cricket team is currently lining up for the home series against Proteas and according to Dada, India is the favorites to win the series. Virat Kohli & Co. recently returned from West Indies, where they played ODI, T20I, Test series and remained unbeaten in all formats. India is yet to face a defeat inclusive of all the formats after returning from the World Cup 2019.
