'Sourav Ganguly should come out and give an explanation' - Madan Lal on the Virat Kohli captaincy issue

Virat Kohli and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are seemingly at loggerheads with each other. While BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has told that he had asked Kohli not to step down as the T20I captain, the 33-year-old Kohli came out and stated that his decision to step down as T20I captain was received well.

Also, Kohli was subsequently removed as the Indian ODI captain as well. And, amidst all this former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has offered his opinion on this matter. Lal feels that this whole captaincy saga should have been handled in a better manner. Lal also added that he does not know what exactly transpired between Ganguly and Kohli.

However, Lal is of the opinion that Ganguly should come and clear the air regarding this matter and give a clear explanation. The 70-year-old Lal also reckoned that India needs to be focused on the South African tour.

“I think this situation should have been handled in a better way because it is not a controversy but a matter of opinion. I don’t know what Sourav had said to Virat so I don’t want to comment on that.

But I think that Sourav being the president should come out and give an explanation and that will be the end of the entire issue. We need to be focused on the South Africa tour right now as it is an important game for us,” said Madan Lal as quoted by NDTV.

I am not sure if the selectors spoke to Virat Kohli: Madan Lal

Madan Lal also added that he agrees to what Sunil Gavaskar has to say and reckoned that Kohli should clear his differences with the management. Adding that the selectors should stop these kind of controversies, Lal concluded by stating that he is not sure if the selectors had actually spoken to Kohli before removing him as the ODI captain.

“Gavaskar is correct with his point. Virat should clear all his issues with the management. This is not a big matter. I would say that the selectors should have handled the situation better. It is the duty of selectors to look after and stop these controversies. I am not sure if the selectors spoke to Virat before taking the decision,” concluded Lal.
