Markram made some headlines with his performances against the Bangladesh team before the series against India. He looked a technically sound batsman and appeared to be the next big thing in Proteas cricket. But, he failed to live up to the expectations and was a severe disappointment. He had no answers to the Indian bowlers and scored just about 250 runs in the entire series which included a brilliant 94 in the second Test.

Furthermore, to make things even worse, he was handed the captaincy role in the ODIs. He has failed miserably which was also complemented by injuries to the top players. The Proteas team lost the series 5-1 in his first ever assignment as the captain of the side. Markram will want to move on quickly and focus on the upcoming assignments.
