South Africa vs India, 3rd ODI: Match Preview, Playing XI and broadcast details
South Africa already won the first two matches and would be looking to clean sweep the Indian team.
The third ODI of the ongoing series between India and South Africa will be a dead rubber. South Africa already won the first two matches and would be looking to clean sweep the Indian team. Meanwhile, the Indian team has won only a single Test match on this tour to South Africa and would love to end the series on a high.
In the second ODI, the duo of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan batted really well in the initial overs but Dhawan, who was India’s highest scorer in the first match failed to recreate the same impact. Aiden Markram dismissed him for 29 runs in the 12th over. Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck by Keshav Maharaj, and the Indian batting unit went into panic mode.
However, Rahul and Rishabh Pant added 115 runs for the third wicket before Rahul departed for 55 runs. Pant followed him after making 85 runs, the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in South Africa. Shardul Thakur again played a key role in the lower middle-order with his 40 runs off 38 balls. India made 287 runs for the loss of six wickets. South African bowlers repeated the same script from the first match, and five of the six bowlers picked at least one wicket.
Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for South Africa. Pant missed a stumping chance in the 8th over when de Kock was on 32 runs. He went on to add 132 runs along with Malan for the first wicket and made 78 runs off 66 balls before getting dismissed in the 22nd over. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Malan for 91 runs in the 35th over, but the match had already slipped from India’s grip by that time. South Africa chased down the total in 48.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Pitch and Conditions
The third ODI will be played at the Newlands, the same venue where the third Test match of the tour was played. India and South Africa have played a total of four ODIs at this venue and have won two games each. The pitch here has provided enough assistance to the batters in the past and the same might be the story of this game. South Africa has won four of the five matches played here and lost the last match in February 2018.
