The President of SLC, Shammi Silva revealed that initially there were going to be only three matches but they eventually requested the BCCI to let them host six of them. SLC will be able to garner a lot of additional revenue from this high-profile series and aims to build a strong economy out of this sum.
“We had initially finalised to host three matches. But after some negotiations with the Indian Cricket Board, we managed to increase the matches to six which will enable us to raise the additional US $6 million in revenue. SLC will be able to provide a large income to the country with Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa’s vision of building a strong economy through Sports.”
We did not reduce the monthly salaries of our cricketers in COVID-19: Sri Lanka Cricket President
The President also went on to add that due to COVID-19, a lot of tournaments got canceled in between and the cricketing schedule remained disturbed. However, even in those crunch situations, the SLC didn’t cut or deduct any salary of the players. Even the allowances remain the same and they aim to maintain the same in the coming days with a lot of regular cricket coming in the year 2021.
“We missed out on several tours as scheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet we did not reduce the monthly salaries and allowances of our cricketers. None of their facilities were deducted either. In the face of this situation, the cricketers should give out their best display to the country.”
