Sri Lanka cricketer Jeevan Mendis announces retirement from international cricket

Jeevan Mendis also added that he has learnt many valuable lessons through the course of his career.

Jeevan Mendis has brought the curtains down on his international career. The Sri Lankan cricketer took to Twitter to confirm the news. Mendis stated that he has experienced an incredible journey with Sri Lankan Cricket for a decade.

The 38-year-old also added that he has learnt many valuable lessons through the course of his career, and will cherish his journey. Mendis also thanked his coaches and teammates as well.

“It was an incredible journey with Sri Lanka Cricket, which I was honored to be a part of since 2010. So many valuable lessons learnt and beautiful memories I cherish throughout this amazing journey. I wish to thank all my coaches and teammates. I am eternally grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket,” tweeted Jeevan Mendis.

Jeevan Mendis represented Sri Lanka in 58 ODIs and 22 T20Is

Through the course of his international career that spanned more than a decade, Jeevan Mendis represented the Sri Lankan cricket team in 58 ODIs and 22 T20Is. While the left-handed batter scored 636 runs in ODI cricket, Mendis amassed 208 runs in the T20I format of the game.

With the ball, the right arm leg spinner picked up 28 wickets in ODIs and 12 scalps in the T20I format of the game. Mendis was last seen in Sri Lankan colours on 28th June 2019, in an ODI match against the South African side.

In that match, the left-hander scored a sedate 46-ball 18 with the willow. Mendis went wicketless with the ball in his final outing in international cricket. South Africa beat the Sri Lankan side with 9 wickets in the kitty in Mendis’ final international match.
