Sri Lankan team to not attend Virushka reception in Mumbai

In light of Virat Kohli’s absence in the Indian limited overs’ side against Sri Lanka due to his wedding, Rohit Sharma was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the side. His first assignment as captain had been a forgettable one but India came back strongly in the other matches and have continued to dominate. Rohit, in particular, has kept the fans entertained not only with the wins but also with his third double century in ODI cricket and the joint-fastest T20I centrury in the 2nd T20I.

India only have one more match before their long home season officially comes to an end and Virat Kohli only has the last function in Mumbai remaining bringing an end to the iconic Virushka wedding. The Sri Lanka series ends at Mumbai, Rohit’s fortress.

Following the third and final T20I, the Indian team will meet the newly wedded couple – Kohli and Anushka Sharma at St Regis on December 26. However, the Sri Lankan team will miss the bus here as well. Sri Lanka will leave for their country soon after the T20I series comes to an end.

A total of 24 Sri Lanka players have been selected to prepare for the Bangladesh series. Off these 24 players, 16 will head to Bangladesh for tri-series along with Zimbabwe. The remaining players will be preparing for the Test series against Bangladesh at home.

This will also be Chandika Hathurusingha’s first assignment as Sri Lanka coach and they SLC will be looking to put things in order before Sri Lanka play the T20I series against Bangladesh post the two-match Test series. A source close to the development told observebd.com, “This will be Hathurusingha’s first assignment for Sri Lanka.

He could not be officially involved in the selection process as per country’s present law, which may be changed in due course, but was “made aware” of the composition of the team. There has been no immediate change in the present support staff. The same support staff now on India tour will be travelling to Bangladesh.”
