Statistical highlights – India v South Africa, 5th ODI: The exciting ODI series between India and South Africa came to an end in Mumbai where AB de Villiers, along with Q de Kock and Faf du Plessis producing a carnage and setting a huge target. However, India could only score half of what South Africa did and conceded the series. Here we look at all possible stats recorded during the game.

438 – South Africa’s total in this game. It is their joint 2nd highest total in ODIs. Overall the joint 3rd highest team total in ODIs. This is also the highest total scored against India and the highest on India soil.

214 – South Africa’s winning margin of 214 is the 2nd highest winning margin against India. However, this is India’s largest losing margin of loss on home soil.

3 – Number of centuries scored in South African innings. This is only the 2nd instance of 3 centuries recorded in an ODI team innings. Last instance was also by South Africa against West Indies earlier in this year.

16 – Matches between India and South Africa won by 1st batting side since 2010. A total of 19 matches played between 2 sides while only 2 won by chasing side with another game getting washed out.

272 – Runs scored by South Africa in boundaries. These are the most runs scored in an ODI innings in boundaries.

123 – Hashim Amla completed 6000 ODI runs in 123 innings. He is now the fastest to 6000 runs in ODIs by beating Virat Kohli (136 innings).

23 – ODI centuries scored by AB de Villiers. Only 5 other players have more centuries in ODIs than de Villiers.

187 – Innings taken by AB de Villiers to score 23 ODI centuries. He stands behind Virat Kohli (157) among the fastest batsman to 23 ODI centuries.

5 – For 5th time, AB de Villiers has scored a century while coming after completion of 25 overs. Only Virat Kohli (2 centuries) has scored more than one century while coming to bat after 25th over.

106 – Runs conceded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the game. These are the 2nd most runs conceded by a bowler in an ODI. Overall, he is the 8th bowler and 2nd from India to concede 100 or more runs in an ODI.

20 – Number of sixes hit by South Africa in their innings. Only New Zealand with 22 sixes, in 2014 vs West Indies hit more than South Africa in an ODI innings.

58 – Sixes hit by AB de Villiers in ODI cricket in 2015. He is 1st player to hit 50 sixes in ODI cricket in a calendar year.

2 – For only the 2nd time in ODIs, AB de Villiers has hit more than 10 sixes in an innings. He is the 1st player to hit more than 10 sixes in ODIs on more than once.

100.28 – AB de Villiers’ career strike rate in ODIs. Only Sehwag & Afridi have a strike rate over 100 in ODIs with minimum of 5000 ODI runs.

2010 – Before Faf du Plessis, a South African batsman retired hurt in ODIs (and never returned) was in 2010 when Graeme Smith retired against Pakistan after scoring 18. Smith’s instance was also the last such instance in International cricket before Faf du Plessis.

8 – Centuries scored by Q de Kock in his ODI career so far. He is tied with Sachin Tendulkar for scoring most tons in ODIs before the age of 25.

100 – Virat Kohli completed 100 sixes in international cricket. He became only the 9th Indian and 72nd player in overall to hit 100 sixes in international cricket.

16 – Extra runs in the game. India conceded 11 extras while South Africa conceded only 5.

14 – No. of wickets fell in the game. 10 off those were Indian wickets while 4 were South Africa’s.

63 – Fours hit during the game. South Africa hit 38 fours while India hit 25 fours.
