Stats: Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan engage in a six hitting massacre in APL

The Afghanistan Premier League T20 had already lost the count on the number of balls that have gone missing and the game between Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan further pushed the number. Both the teams were smashing the ball out of the park as the game aggregated 467 runs in just 40 overs. Balkh, who batted first, posted 244/6 in their 20 overs. Kabul were cruising at 86/1 after the power play but failed to keep up with the scoring rate as they ended up on 224/7.

Chris Gayle produced his first big innings in the APL as the most prolific T20 batsman scored a 48-ball 80 that included two fours and ten sixes. Young batsman Darwish Rasooli made 50 off 27 balls while the International players Mohammad Nabi and Dilshan Munaweera scored 37 and 45 runs respectively in quick time. As a result, the Balkh Legends hit as many as 23 sixes during their innings which is the most by any team in an inning in Twenty20 cricket.

Most number of sixes in a match in T20 cricket:

Mirwais Ashraf hit a couple of sixes in the final over to ensure that his team set a new record. As many as four teams hit 21 sixes in a T20 inning. RCB set the record with 21 sixes when they posted 263/5 against PWI in the 2013 IPL game. Windies in the 2016 T20I against India in Lauderhill and India in the 2017 Indore T20I against Sri Lanka hit the same number of sixes as well. BPL team Rangpur Riders also hit 21 sixes in the final of the 2017 season. Gayle was involved in three of the five instances when 21+ sixes were clobbered in a T20 inning.

In the big run-chase, Kabul Zwanan were powered by a record-breaking knock from Hazratullah Zazai who scored 62 off just 17 balls. The left-handed batsman completed his fifty in just 12 balls hitting six sixes in an over. His team struck as many as 14 sixes in an unsuccessful chase to extend the sixes tally of the game of 37. Thus, this game broke the record for most number of sixes in a T20 held by a 2016 Super Smash encounter and a 2018 CPL game where the batsmen struck 34 sixes.
