Stats: Indian players who got their first ODI wicket via stumping
Kuldeep became only 10th Indian to have their maiden ODI wicket with a stumping.
Kuldeep Yadav’s much awaited moment of bowling in a limited-overs International came in the 2nd ODI of the 5-match series where he picked up 3 wickets in his 9 overs against Windies at the Port of Spain. Kuldeep, who earned his maiden call-up for the national side during home ODI series in 2014 had to wait 3 more years to make his International debut in a Test match during the recent home series.
He finally made his ODI debut in the first match of the series but the rain didn’t give India a chance to field. Kuldeep was introduced in the 14th over of Windies innings in the 2nd game but the chinaman bowler didn’t have the greatest of starts going for 23 runs in his first 3 overs including 10 in his first one. He came back well to bag his maiden wicket in this format when Evin Lewis attempted the big shot coming down the ground lured by the flight provided by the wrist spinner but the left-hander completely missed it out and was stumped comfortably by MS Dhoni.
He later trapped Shai Hope in front of stumps, the only man standing in the Windies’ chance and had hit Kuldeep for a few boundaries. Towards the end, the 22-year-old bagged his 3rd wicket of the game as Jason Holder also got stumped as he attempted hit a big one.
By taking his first ODI wicket with as a stomping, Kuldeep became only 10th Indian to record their maiden ODI wicket with a stumping. The last of the previous 9 was Ambati Rayudu in 2014 against England.
