Stats: Mohammad Nabi picks up his maiden 5-wicket haul in Twenty20s
Mohammad Nabi recorded the 3rd best bowling figures of CPL history.
Mohammad Nabi has been playing a key role in the success of St Lucia Zouks during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2020. Nabi has been successful in delivering for the St Lucia franchise with both bat and ball. Nabi, who picked up four wickets in first five matches, bagged a 5-wicket haul on Thursday in the game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. This helped the Zouks to register their 4th win of CPL 2020 and three of them ended with Nabi being named the player of the match.
In the game against Patriots, the Afghanistan all-rounder bowled the first over of the match. He struck on the 3rd ball as Chris Lynn handed a return catch without scoring a run. Two balls later, Nick Kelly was caught in slips leaving the Patriots 0/2 in 0.5 overs. Denesh Ramdin smashed the off-spinner for a six in the 3rd over of the innings but was dismissed trying to hit another biggie. Evin Lewis failed in a slog sweep on the next ball and returned to the pavilion. St Kitts and Nevis lost their top four inside three overs for 11 runs.
Nabi went on to dismiss Sohail Tanvir in his last over to complete his maiden 5-wicket haul in Twenty20s. Mohammad Nabi also became the first player in CPL history to claim a 5-wicket haul for the St Lucia Zouks. This was the 8th instance of Nabi picking up four or more wickets in a T20 game and five of them came in franchise T20 leagues. The veteran Afghanistan player has taken one haul of 4+ wickets in the each of Bangladesh Premier League, Afghanistan Premier League, Big Bash League and Indian Premier League before his 5-fer in the CPL.
In this process, Mohammad Nabi became only the 2nd player to pick a 4-wicket haul in five different franchise T20 leagues. Sohail Tanvir was the first to this set while no other player has 4-fers in more than three leagues. Till date, a total of eight franchise-based T20 leagues falling under official T20 cricket have taken place. Sri Lanka Premier League (2012) and Afghanistan Premier League (2018) are the only leagues that have been only one season old.
