Team India has played a lot of Test cricket away from home this year which includes tours of South Africa, England and are now in Australia. At the same time, England and Australia too tried to improve their record away from only for the former team to come up trumps in their recent tour to Sri Lanka. Though India haven’t managed to win any away Test series so far this year, they have competed well thanks to their bowlers led by Mohammed Shami.

The fast bowler is now the highest wicket-taker in the longest format away from home this year. He has picked 36 wickets in 17 innings playing all the matches, the latest being against Australia in Adelaide which India. Shami has been the best bowler for India striking every 48.8 balls at an average of 27.80 with one five-wicket haul to his name. Known especially for his exploits in the second innings, Shami has couple more Test matches in 2018 to strengthen his top position.

Other Indian bowlers are also in the list

This list, not surprisingly, is dominated by the Indians as they have picked 20 wickets in almost every game they’ve played this year. Jasprit Bumrah is just behind his teammate with 34 wickets to his name and has played two Test matches less than Shami. Ishant Sharma, the most experienced bowler of the attack, is the third in the list and has the best average (23.51) among the top three. He has scalped 29 wickets in eight Tests striking at almost every nine overs.

A couple of off-spinners follow then with Nathan Lyon trumping Ravi Ashwin. Though the Australian has more wickets than his Indian counterpart, Ashwin has better strike-rate and average than him. Pat Cummins is the best among everyone picking 22 wickets only in four Tests at 21.45. England recently whitewashed Sri Lanka in the three-match Test series in the island nation and a lot of credit for the same goes to Moeen Ali and Jack Leach who also have made it to the list.

Both England cricketers have shared 40 wickets equally in away Tests this year in the same number of innings and have played a crucial role in their team’s victories.
