Stats: Top ten best bowling figures in U19 World Cup
The list features two international stars from the current scenario.
Young Aussie speedster Jason Ralston has stolen all the limelight on Friday by registering the best bowling figures in U19 World Cup history. Australia U19 was up against Papua New Guinea U19 and the Kangaroos made an absolute mockery with a show of strength. It was just a perfect way to round off their campaign and they head through to the quarter-finals alongside India in Group B.
Jason Ralston has topped a list which includes some really big names. His spell of 7/15, which helped his team earn a humongous 312-run victory, is the best-ever spell in U19 World Cups. He was spot on with his lines and made life difficult for the PNG batters, who had no clue what hit them.
Ralston went past Jeevan Mendis’ figures of 7/19, which was recorded back in 2002. Mendis went on to play for the Sri Lankan National side and was a regular one a point in time. His record stood firm for a staggering 16 years, only to be broken by the young and steamy Ralston.
Boult and Rabada also on the list
New Zealand bowling spearhead Trent Boult is one of the three bowlers in U19 World Cup history to pick up 7 wickets in a game. Boult amassed nearly 350 wickets at the International level for the Blackcaps and is well on his way towards becoming one of the finest in the game’s history. Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi returned with figures of 6/15 in the game against Ireland a few days ago and he earned the 6th spot on this elite list.
Another big name is South African speedster Kagiso Rabada. Well, if this man needs an introduction, people ain’t watching cricket properly these days. He was one of the best performers in the 2014 U19 World Cup hosted in Dubai and played a key role in helping South Africa bag the title. His spell of 6/25 against Australia is the 9th best in the tournament’s history.
Fellow South African Wayne Parnell, who is a proud member of the 2008 U19 batch, registered figures of 6/8 against Bangladesh. He was the captain of that U19 side that eventually bowed down to Virat Kohli’s India. The only Indian on this list is Kamal Passi, the World Cup winner in 2012 under Unmukt Chand. His spell of 6/23 stands seventh in this group.
